Thousands of years ago, Prahlāda, a five-year-old child prodigy, tried to convince his friends not to delay their spiritual progress. ‘If you are smart,’ he said, ‘you start as a child with self-realization or Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Don’t wait until you’re old, worn out, and bitter.’
Prahlāda’s father, an inveterate atheist, tried everything to thwart the boy’s spiritual temperament, but he was unable to silence Prahlāda. Indeed, in Prahlāda Mahārāja’s transcendental knowledge, Prahlāda speaks to modern man with undiminished power. Prahlāda Mahārāja’s transcendental knowledge is based on a series of lectures given by Śrila Prabhupāda in which he expounds Prahlāda’s teachings on self-realization.
Śrīla Prabhupāda also urges us to start (or deepen) our spirituality and, above all, not to succumb to atheistic trends. Rather, we must learn to attain the highest perfection of life in an eternal, blissful, transcendental relationship with God, Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
